PTEC 1105 - Polymer Processing Survey

This introductory course is designed to introduce the principles of structure, properties, and applications of polymeric materials with an emphasis on polyethylene resins and other select resins. Topics include the nature of polymers, polymer synthesis, formulation, and structure property relationships. A general review of polymer film processing, specialized equipment and performance testing will be covered. A general review of polymer injection molding processes, specialized equipment and performance testing will be covered. The course is structured to be 15 weeks in length, with an introduction to polymer chemistry and manufacture followed by modules on film processing and injection molding, with a survey of other manufacturing methods. 
Required Prerequisite Course(s): High School Chemistry (minimum of C- required), MATH 1051 (minimum of C- required) or MATH 1130 (minimum of C- required).

Required as Prerequisite or Concurrent Course(s): PTEC 1104 (can be concurrent with PTEC 1104)
