Social psychology provides an exploration of the influences of other people, groups, and situations on the individual. This social psychology course will apply the scientific method as a tool in the discovery of individual functioning in the social world.  Please note outcomes are written to ODHE standards using ODHE language. Student Learning Outcomes for Course
Outcomes Assessments – How it is met & When it is met

1.Describe and assess the basic psychological theories, principles, and concepts explaining interpersonal relations, social cognition, attitude formation and change, group processes, pro-social behavior, aggression, conformity/obedience and stereotyping/prejudice.

Regularly throughout the term through writing assignments (reflection and/or application writings), exams, and course activities and assignments.

Real life connection assignment at the end of the term.

2. Apply knowledge of theory as well as current and past research in social psychology to situations in everyday life.

Research overview information assessed through exam questions at the beginning of the term. Research examples and theory information is provided throughout the course as different aspects of social psychology are explored. Subsequent theory and research exploration is assessed through writing assignments, course activities, and exams.

3. Explain and predict how human behavior is influenced by social factors (e.g., groups, authority figures, in-group bias, gender roles, and cognitive dissonance).

Regularly throughout the term, especially from the middle to end of the term, through writing assignments (self-assessments, reflections, and/or application writings), exams, and course activities.

4. Assess and critically analyze theories, research methods and findings (outcomes), and applications developed by psychologists and made available through textbooks, newspapers, professional and lay periodicals, and the internet.

Regularly throughout the term through course activities and writing assignments.

5. Core Knowledge: Students will be able to explain the primary terminology, concepts, and findings of social psychology. 

Regularly throughout the term by writing assignments, course assignments, and/or exams.

6. Theory: Students will be able explain the primary theoretical approaches used in social psychology. 

Regularly throughout the term as new theories and theory application examples and processed. Assessed through writing assignments, course assignments, and/or exams.
7. Methodology: Students will be able to explain the primary quantitative and qualitative research methods used in social psychology. Research overview information assessed through exam questions at the beginning of the term. Throughout the course, historical social psychology research examples are provided and more recent research examples are included. Subsequent research aspects may be assessed through writing assignments and/or exams.
8. Values: Students will be able to explain the primary ethical issues raised by the practice and findings of social psychology. Ethical components on social psychology research examples are explored at the beginning of the term and assessed through exams and/or course assignments. Subsequent course concepts and research examples further explore and apply ethics. Assessment of these ethical aspects is done through writing assignments, course activities, and/or exams. 
9. Evidence: Students will be able to explain the range of relevant information sources in social psychology. Through research exploration at the beginning of the term and subsequent course content and examples throughout the course. Assessed through writing assignments, course assignments, and/or exams.
